Music Moves Me Monday – Happy Birthday Babies!

Photobucket

It’s birthday week around here. Jonebug turns 4 today and shares his birthday with my baby sister. She’s 34 now.

Evolved will be 25 tomorrow and Bambi Jayne turns 29 this coming Saturday. Kimeters lags behind a little…not rolling over his odometer until the first day of winter.

Seems only natural that my musical selection would reflect the birthday atmosphere. My choice today is dedicated to all the birthday celebrants in my life. Please enjoy this short tune by the Dapper Dans. Happy Birthday to you ALL!

Music Moves Me Monday – “T” is for Thanksgiving

Photobucket

For this week’s musical selection, I bypassed the Internet and searched through my personal collection instead. I looked through my CDs in search of a song that fit with the assigned theme, hoping to find more than just a song that begins with “T” though. I wanted to find a song that shows a thankful perspective as well.

I went through every disk…pulling out the CDs with “T” songs listed. Near the end of my search, well into the Ws…I pulled out Steve Winwood. I had planned to dismiss “The” as my “T” word, but when I saw “The Finer Things” listed…I decided to go with it anyway.

When I first fell in love with this song, it was more due to the spiritual nature of the lyrics…and not at all in a romantic sense. For me, it’s about all I have, all I am and all I know…and for all of that, I’m thankful.

UMG won’t allow me to embed a youtube version of this song, but you can listen to it over on youtube.com.

Music Moves Me Monday – Mahna Mahna

Jim Henson’s Fantastic World is traveling the US and currently on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois. It’s scheduled to be there until late January of 2011. I visited the museum a couple of weekends ago with my five offspring, where we were able to see the Henson exhibit for ourselves.

There were glass encased displays of Muppets. Some were from way back…even a few, I’d never seen before. Time-lines, storyboards and artwork hung on the walls. Video played on monitors and there were even a couple interactive areas for children.

The exhibit was interesting for true Henson/Muppet fans…but was memorable for me specifically because of what happened to me there.

I consider myself a photographer. I’m not great, but I do love it. So I was very much looking forward to capturing the Henson exhibit to share with fellow Muppet fans online.

As I entered with my family, I put the three oldest kids, (28, 24 and 15) in charge of the two little ones (3 and 6). I wanted freedom to focus on taking pictures.

I was probably halfway through the exhibit, with twenty great shots on disc, when I noticed the sign on the wall near Rowlf.

Oops. No Photography. I shut off my camera and replaced my lens cap. I guess I should have known…but I just didn’t.

I returned to my role as guardian of the little people and helped them put on their own puppet show. When the 3 year-old lost interest, he headed over to put the eyes, hair and clothes on cardboard puppets that stuck to the wall. I followed him over.

This is where I got into trouble. Mahna Mahna and the Snowfs stood on display right next to the interactive area. I wanted a photo of them so badly, I couldn’t stand it.

So like any other bad person would do, I slyly turned my camera back on, removed the lens cap and shot a few photos from the hip. Bad girl…but I got my shots and returned my camera to the Off position.

Soon after, a security guard came out and announced to everyone, “No photography allowed in the Muppet exhibit.” Then turned to me and asked, “How are you doing?” I responded with a considerable amount of stupid in my voice. We smiled at each other and that was it.

When I turned back to my 3 year-old however, he was gone. I panicked. My baby is special. He doesn’t seem to think like average children and I worried about his safety.

I alerted the older kids and put two of them in charge of the 6 year-old. The 15 year-old and I quickly swept through the entire exhibit but didn’t find Jonebug inside.

I alerted the security guard and ran out of the museum in search of my baby boy. I asked numerous people if they’d seen him, but no one had.

I ran throughout the entire second floor of the museum until one of the museum employees stopped to tell me my son had been found. At that moment and not before, I started to bawl and nearly collapsed. The memory stirred up as I’m typing brings me to tears once again.

But anyway…back to the music that is Monday. Overall, it was a lovely visit to the museum that Sunday. I always treasure time spent with my family. And this is why I’ve chosen Mahna Mahna as my music for today. Come dance with me!!

Music Moves Me Monday – Make Mine Country

Photobucket

This week’s theme presented me with a small challenge. While I like most all music, I don’t consider myself a fan of country. I am unfamiliar with today’s artists and wasn’t sure where to begin.

Then I remembered a time when I was a huge country music fan so I went back to there. I started typing artist’s names into youtube and was reminded of why I loved it so much then.

So the second challenge began. How do I narrow it down to my choice for today. I started with Waylon. I’ve Always Been Crazy describes me fairly well.

Then Eddie Rabbit. I Love a Rainy Night as much as he does.

My mind started racing. I was thinking Barbara Mandrell and Tom T Hall and Johnny Cash. So many, many fabulous country artists to choose from. What song would best express me?

While looking through Eddie’s videos I stumbled upon Crystal Gayle. I LOVE HER! Her voice is wonderful, her hair was amazing and such a pretty face too.

I selected Crystal to represent me this week and decided to use her Muppet Show version of River Road for my MMMM spotlight song.

Challenge complete. Ready to post my blog. Yeah…not quite.

I discovered yet another challenge for this week. I’ve been selected as a spotlight dancer! I don’t know what I’m doing and just hope I figure it out all in time. Thanks so much for choosing me XmasDolly! I am sincerely honored. I just hope I won’t let you down.

Warming My Soul, Island Style

Photobucket

It’s Monday again…and the beginning of a new month. I hate that it’s November already. It means we are that much closer to winter and I am not a winter person.

So my choice for Music Moves Me Monday takes me to a better place. A sweet song that I am always in the mood for…Weezer’s Island in the Sun.

…but I just couldn’t stop there. Another Island song quickly came to mind and I do love me some Elton!!
