Hollyhock Dolls

My paternal grandparents had the most amazing backyard gardens. I loved playing there with my sisters and cousins, but I especially loved spending time out there with Grandma.

Grandma was a teacher and she taught me many wonderful skills and secrets that I’ll never forget…one of them being hollyhock dolls. All you need to make your own, is a hollyhock blossom, a hollyhock bud and two toothpicks.

Poke one toothpick through the stem end and out through the blossom side.

Then skewer the bud onto the blossom, stem ends together. Do not pierce through the bud completely. The toothpick going through the blossom, should be long enough to help the doll stand, break off excess if need be. Pinch off any bits of stem left on the flowers. Break the remaining tooth pick in half.

Poke the tooth pick halves into the sides of the blossom for arms. And there she is…your very own hollyhock doll.
